Abstract

Observations of the display repertoire of a territorial pair of Torrent Ducks, Merganetta armata armata, on Río Nalcas, Oscorno, Chile, from 18 September to 26 November 1975 support the view that Torrent Ducks belong in a monotypic tribe — Merganettini. Described and illustrated displays include: Pointing, Barging, Upright, Bent-neck, Vertical-shake, Mule-kick, Body-bend, Wing-flap, Shudder-shake, Tail, wagging, Prone, and associated vocalizations.
